Download this sheet which is a quick reckoner as to how you can help yourself. Make a list of the telephone numbers of those you can call upon in an emergency (eg. Samaritans on 116 123, your local doctor’s surgery, a nearby friend or neighbour).
When you feel depressed or sad and it’s hard to “climb out” of those difficult feelings, take a moment. Breathe in for a count of four, hold it for a count of four, then exhale slowly for a count of eight. Feel the sensation of relaxation take hold of you. Do this a few times.
Think about the positive aspects of yourself that others have fed back to you in the past about the assets you have, or even think back to what you know you are good at. Make a note in this downloadable sheet here. (ref: Drawing on Emotions, by Margot Sunderland) When we are feeling down, we often dwell on negative feelings about ourselves in a self-defeating cycle. By making an effort to concentrate on positive aspects we can help ourselves. Some people might use this time to pray, connect with their higher self or spirit guides or angels, depending on what your beliefs are. Discover what works or talk it through with a therapist (contact me) or healer.
